What's eating my crassula pellucida?

Crassula pellucida subsp. marginalis 'Variegata' (calico kitten) is a trailing succulent whose dense rosettes provide ideal hiding spots for mealybugs. Spider mites can establish on the leaf undersides in warm dry rooms. Fungus gnats appear if the compost stays wet. Aphids occasionally attack soft new growth in spring.

White fluffy wax between leaf rosettes and along trailing stems; honeydew; growth slows or stops. Swab colonies with isopropyl alcohol; apply neem oil spray to the whole plant weekly; repeat for 3–4 weeks.

Tiny pale spots on leaf surfaces; fine webbing on undersides; leaves may curl and dry at tips. Rinse the plant gently; raise humidity slightly; apply insecticidal soap every 5–7 days until resolved.

Soft-bodied insects on new growth tips; distorted young leaves; sticky deposits below infested growth. Spray with a strong jet of water; treat with insecticidal soap; pinch out and discard heavily infested tips.
