What's eating my crassula hummel's sunset?

Crassula 'Hummel's Sunset' is a succulent jade that attracts mealybugs above all else — they hide in leaf axils and among the crowded stems. Spider mites strike in dry winter air. Vine weevil larvae can destroy roots if the pot sits outdoors in summer. Overwatering encourages fungus gnats indoors.

White cottony masses in leaf axils and along stems; honeydew causing sticky leaves and sooty mould; stunted growth. Dab colonies with isopropyl alcohol; spray with dilute neem oil weekly for 4 weeks; remove badly infested shoots.

Pale silvery stippling on leaves; webbing between leaf axils; leaves shrivel in severe attacks. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth; apply insecticidal soap spray every 5–7 days; improve air circulation.

Larvae eat roots and stem base below compost level; plant suddenly collapses or wilts despite moist soil. Repot and inspect roots; remove and destroy larvae by hand; apply nematode drench (Steinernema kraussei) in autumn.

Larvae damage fine roots in wet compost; adult gnats swarm around the pot; plant may yellow and decline. Water sparingly and allow compost to dry; apply Bti-based drench; use yellow sticky traps for flying adults.
