What's eating my crassula capitella?

Crassula capitella ('Campfire' crassula) is a low-growing succulent that most often suffers from mealybugs nestling between its tightly stacked leaves. Spider mites attack in dry winter conditions. Root mealybugs can be harder to spot but damage the root system. Overwatering is the gateway to fungus gnat problems.

White cottony colonies wedged between stacked leaves or along stems; honeydew residue; stunted, off-colour growth. Dab with isopropyl alcohol; spray plant with dilute neem oil weekly for 4 weeks; inspect between leaf whorls carefully.

White wax deposits on roots visible on repotting; plant wilts despite correct watering; growth stalls. Unpot and wash roots under running water; soak in dilute neem solution for 10 minutes; repot in fresh dry compost.

Pale stippling on the upper leaf surface; webbing between leaves in severe cases; foliage turns dull and yellow. Wipe leaves; increase air circulation; apply insecticidal soap spray every 5 days for 3 cycles.
