What's eating my climbing iceberg rose?

Climbing Iceberg, a widely grown white climbing rose, is relatively disease-resistant but still draws aphids on new growth and Japanese beetles in the US. Sawfly larvae appear in late spring. Thrips may scar the white petals. Deer and rabbits target accessible canes. Aphids are the most consistent threat across US and UK gardens.

Soft colonies on new shoot tips and bud clusters cause sticky deposits and curled, weakened growth. Remove with a firm water spray; apply insecticidal soap or neem oil; attract hoverflies with companion planting.

Adults skeletonize foliage and damage the pale flowers heavily during summer. Hand-pick into soapy water at dawn; apply neem oil; use milky spore for long-term grub management.

White petals show brown streaking and silvery flecking; flowers may have a scorched appearance. Remove and bag affected flowers; spray spinosad on blooms; use sticky yellow traps to monitor populations.

Larvae strip leaflets from the underside, producing patches of dead tissue along climbing canes. Check leaf undersides weekly; hand-pick larvae; spray pyrethrin or spinosad if populations are large.
