What's eating my caladium 'puppy love'?

Caladium 'Puppy Love', a compact indoor caladium, is most vulnerable to spider mites in warm, dry rooms and mealybugs hiding in its dense leaf clusters. Fungus gnats breed readily in perpetually moist mix. Aphids occasionally target new growth. Letting the soil surface dry slightly between waterings and boosting humidity addresses most issues.

Pale stippling and dusty webbing on leaf undersides; leaves look faded or bronzed in dry air. Mist regularly or run a nearby humidifier; apply neem oil or insecticidal soap spray every 5–7 days.

White cottony deposits in leaf axils and at stem bases; plant growth stunts and leaves yellow. Dab with alcohol-soaked cotton swab; spray whole plant with neem oil; isolate from other houseplants.

Adult gnats hovering around soil; larvae damage fine roots, leading to wilting despite moist soil. Let top 5 cm of potting mix dry out; drench with Bti solution; use yellow sticky traps to monitor adults.
