What's eating my bucephalandra sekadau?

Bucephalandra Sekadau is an aquatic aroid from Borneo grown emersed or submerged. Emersed leaves can attract spider mites and mealybugs indoors, especially in dry conditions. Fully submerged specimens are almost pest-immune. Fungus gnats may appear if the growing medium stays too wet around emerged portions.

Pale stippling and fine webbing on emersed leaves, especially under dry indoor conditions. Mist foliage frequently, wipe leaves with a damp cloth, and treat with diluted neem oil or insecticidal soap on emersed growth.

White waxy clusters at leaf nodes and undersides of emersed leaves; honeydew can encourage sooty mold. Remove manually with an alcohol-soaked swab and apply neem oil spray; inspect new arrivals before adding to a tank.

Root damage from larvae in overly moist substrate; adult gnats flying around the enclosure. Improve drainage, allow the top layer of substrate to dry, and use yellow sticky traps or beneficial nematodes.
