What's eating my anthurium corrugatum?

Anthurium corrugatum is a rare collector's anthurium grown indoors. Like its relatives, spider mites are the top threat, favoured by the dry conditions typical of most homes. Mealybugs occasionally colonise petioles and the textured undersides of leaves. Consistent humidity and vigilant monthly inspection are the best defences for this uncommon species.

Tiny pale dots (stippling) on leaf surfaces; webbing visible under leaves in established colonies. Increase humidity above 55%, wipe leaves clean, and apply neem oil or insecticidal soap spray every 7 days.

Cottony wax deposits at petiole bases and leaf undersides; sticky residue and sooty mold follow. Remove with alcohol-soaked swab; spray neem oil over the whole plant every 5–7 days until no new colonies form.

Silvery scratching marks on leaves; new growth emerges distorted or with brown edges. Prune affected leaves, apply spinosad or neem oil spray, and use yellow sticky traps to monitor.
