What's eating my amorphophallus hewittii?

Amorphophallus hewittii is a rare tropical Amorphophallus species, typically grown in controlled greenhouse or indoor conditions. Spider mites and mealybugs are the chief pests in warm, enclosed environments. Fungus gnats breed in the rich, moist growing medium the corm requires. Aphids may appear on plants moved outdoors in summer.

Pale stippling across the leaf surface; fine webbing on undersides in warm, low-humidity air. Increase ambient humidity; wipe leaves clean; spray with neem oil or introduce Phytoseiulus persimilis predatory mites.

White cottony wax at the petiole base and around the corm neck; leaf yellowing and growth check. Swab visible colonies with isopropyl alcohol; treat soil with neem drench; repeat every two weeks.

Larval root feeding in wet compost; standing water or very moist substrate increases risk significantly. Allow the top inch of compost to dry; apply Bti drench; cover soil surface with horticultural grit.
