What's eating my agapanthus inapertus subsp. pendulus?

Agapanthus inapertus subsp. pendulus, with its distinctive pendulous tubular flowers, is bothered primarily by aphids on its flower scapes and new leaves. Vine weevil grubs can damage the thick roots in containers. Slugs and snails attack emerging foliage. Rabbits may browse soft growth, particularly in rural gardens.

Colonies on flower scapes and leaf bases; sticky honeydew may coat lower leaves and encourage sooty mould. Remove by hand or with a strong water spray; use insecticidal soap; foster natural predators.

White grubs feed on fleshy roots causing wilting and death; scallop-notched leaf margins indicate adult feeding. Drench compost with pathogenic nematodes in late summer; use approved vine weevil insecticide on pots.
