Salak (snake fruit) is a clustering spiny palm. Pruning consists of removing old, dried-out fronds and spent flower stalks rather than any structural cutting. Because it is a palm, no shaping or heading of the main stem is possible or needed. Keep the number of stems per clump to 3–5 by removing excess offshoots at the base.
