How to prune witch hazel

Immediately after flowering in late winter to early spring (February–March). Use clean, sharp secateurs or loppers. Remove only dead, damaged, or crossing stems, cutting back to a healthy outward-facing bud or the branch junction. Avoid cutting back into old wood unless absolutely necessary — witch hazel is slow to regenerate from hard cuts.
