After flowering, typically spring to early summer. Cut spent flower spikes close to the cane with sterile scissors. Remove dead or yellowing leaves cleanly. Never cut a healthy green cane — pseudobulbs persist for multiple years.

Annually after flowering; dead material removed as needed. White Dendrobium (Dendrobium formosum) needs very little pruning. Trim away spent flower spikes and any dead or yellowing leaves after blooming. The pseudobulb canes should not be cut — they are long-lived and store energy. Only remove a cane if it is completely shrivelled and dead.
