How to prune wave petunia

Mid-season cutback in midsummer (July in the Northern Hemisphere). Use sharp scissors or shears to cut all stems back by one-third to one-half, cutting just above a leaf node. Water and apply a balanced liquid feed after cutting.

One to two cutbacks per season. Wave Petunias are bred for self-cleaning and spread vigorously without deadheading, but they benefit from cutting back by one-third to one-half mid-season when stems become leggy and flowering slows. This hard cutback triggers a flush of new growth and flowers within 2–3 weeks. No deadheading is strictly necessary between cutbacks.
