How to prune twinspur

After each flowering flush, typically late spring and again in late summer. Use clean scissors or shears to cut stems back by one-third to one-half, cutting just above a healthy leaf node or side shoot. Water and apply a balanced liquid feed after cutting back to support regrowth.

Cut back after each major flush, typically two to three times per season. Twinspur (Diascia barberae) blooms in waves and responds well to cutting back between flushes. After each main flush fades, trim plants back by one-third to one-half to encourage fresh, compact regrowth and a new cycle of flowers. Without cutting back the plant becomes open and flowering drops off noticeably.
