How to prune tundra honeyberry

Immediately after harvest (late spring/early summer) or late winter. Clear dead or damaged wood first. On mature bushes, remove one or two of the oldest, thickest, least productive stems at the base each year using loppers. Leave all healthy current-year shoots intact — fruiting buds for next season are already forming at their tips.

Annually on mature bushes; little to none for plants under 4 years old. Tundra honeyberry requires very little pruning while young. Fruit is borne at branch tips, so avoid heavy tip-pruning or you will remove next year's crop. On established plants (4+ years), selectively remove the oldest, most congested canes at the base to keep the bush open and productive.
