Pruning tulip — FAQ
When should I prune tulip?
Deadhead right after flowers fade; leave foliage until fully yellowed (late spring to early summer). Snap or cut the spent flower stem just below the seed head, leaving the stalk and all leaves in place. Once leaves are completely yellow and papery, remove them cleanly at ground level.
How often does tulip need pruning?
Once per season. Tulips need almost no pruning. Deadhead the spent flower head immediately after blooming to prevent seed set, but leave all the foliage intact until it turns yellow and dies back naturally — usually 6 weeks after flowering. The leaves fuel the bulb for next year's bloom. Never tie or cut green leaves.
