When should I prune tayberry?
Late summer to autumn after harvest (August–October). Cut all fruited canes to ground level after the harvest is complete. Choose 6–8 of the strongest new primocanes and tie them evenly to the support wires in a fan. Remove remaining canes at the base. Shorten retained canes to 2.5–3 m in late winter.
How often does tayberry need pruning?
Annually, after fruiting. Tayberry is a vigorous floricane hybrid — it fruits on year-old canes, so every autumn remove the canes that just cropped and train new ones for next season. Its vigour means you must be decisive about removing surplus growth; leaving too many canes causes shading, poor air circulation, and botrytis.
