How to prune sun pitcher

Any time dead pitchers appear; no seasonal requirement. Snip fully dead pitchers at their base near the rhizome with clean scissors. Do not pull them, as the rhizome can be disturbed. Leave all green or partly green pitchers in place regardless of age.

Rarely; as individual pitchers die off over months to years. Sun Pitcher (Heliamphora nutans) is a slow-growing highland carnivore that needs very little pruning. Remove pitchers only once they have fully died and browned. Because this species grows extremely slowly, take care not to remove any pitcher still showing live tissue. Flower stalks can be cut after seed set if desired.
