How to prune string of needles

Spring to summer for any trimming or propagation cuts. Cut dead or overlong stems cleanly just below a node using sterilised scissors. Cuttings of 8–10 cm with 2–3 nodes can be rooted in moist sphagnum or potting mix to fill in sparse areas of the same pot.

Remove dead or shrivelled stem sections with clean scissors. If the plant becomes untidy, trim stems to your preferred length; cuttings root easily in spring or summer and can be tucked back into the pot to thicken the plant.
