How to prune signet marigold

Throughout the growing season as flowers fade. Pinch or cut off spent flower heads back to the nearest lateral shoot. Plants are compact and rarely need stem trimming; a light overall tidy in late summer can refresh appearance if plants look tired.

Deadhead every one to two weeks; minimal other pruning needed. Signet marigolds produce masses of small blooms and are notably more self-cleaning than African or French types. Deadheading is beneficial but less critical — plants will continue flowering reasonably well even without it. Remove spent flowers periodically to keep plants tidy and maximise bloom count through summer and into autumn.
