Annually in spring. Sedum telephium 'Purple Emperor' needs an annual spring cutback after winter. The dark seedheads look attractive and support overwintering insects, so leave them until March. Cut all stems back to the low basal rosette. A Chelsea Chop in late May on half the plant reduces height and staggers the late-summer flowering period.
