Rarely; as needed for tidying, once per life cycle. Sad Bromeliad (Neoregelia tristis) needs very little pruning. Its small, wine-spotted leaves rarely need trimming beyond removing damaged or dead outer growth at the base. Monocarpic by nature, the rosette blooms once and offsets. Once pups establish, remove the spent mother plant at the base to encourage offset growth.
