How to prune royal purple lilyturf

Late winter to early spring, before new leaves begin emerging. Shear all foliage down to 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) using clean, sharp garden shears. In mild winters with little leaf damage, simply remove discoloured leaves by hand.

Annually (or as needed in mild climates). Royal Purple Lilyturf (Liriope muscari 'Royal Purple') shares the same light-touch pruning needs as other L. muscari cultivars. Cut foliage back to 2–3 inches once a year in late winter or early spring to clear old or winter-damaged leaves before new growth pushes through. Pruning is not strictly required — removing brown tips as they appear is enough in mild climates.
