Rarely — only when fronds fully die off. Restrepo's Chigua (Chigua restrepoi) is a critically endangered Colombian cycad. It needs essentially no pruning — remove only fronds that have entirely died back, cutting at the base of the frond stalk. As an extremely rare species, this plant should be disturbed as little as possible. Never remove green or partially live fronds under any circumstances.
