Pruning radish — FAQ
When should I prune radish?
Harvest when roots reach the expected diameter for the variety (typically 2–3 cm for round types). Pull the root cleanly from the soil by grasping the base of the leaf tops. No cutting of leaves or roots is needed before harvest. Succession-sow every 2 weeks for a continuous supply rather than trying to extend individual plants.
How often does radish need pruning?
No pruning needed — harvest and resow. Radishes need no pruning at all. They grow from seed to harvest in as little as 3–4 weeks (summer varieties) and there is no growth phase that benefits from any cutting. Harvest promptly when roots reach full size — left in the ground they become woody, hollow and hot. Simply pull them, do not attempt to prune or extend them.
