How to prune zinnia 'profusion'

Pinch young plants when 12–15 cm tall; deadhead through summer as needed. Pinch the main stem tip above a leaf node when plants are young. Deadhead by cutting or snapping spent blooms back to the nearest side shoot; with 'Profusion' this is optional but extends peak display.

Pinch once at the seedling stage; deadhead every 7–10 days or as needed — less critical than for tall zinnia varieties. Zinnia 'Profusion' is a naturally self-cleaning cultivar — it drops spent blooms reasonably well without deadheading. However, removing spent flowers regularly still extends the display and tidies the plant. Pinching young plants once at 15 cm tall encourages a fuller mound. 'Profusion' is more disease-resistant and lower maintenance than tall zinnias.
