When should I prune popcorn?
No pruning needed; sucker removal (if chosen) done early when suckers are small. If removing basal suckers, snap off at soil level when 10–15 cm tall. No leaf or stem pruning is beneficial or recommended. Proper block-planting for wind pollination is more important than any pruning intervention.
How often does popcorn need pruning?
Rarely or never. Strawberry Popcorn, like all corn, requires no routine pruning. Basal sucker removal is debated — most extension research shows it does not improve yield. Allow the plant to grow naturally and focus on proper spacing (30–45 cm apart in blocks) for good pollination. Harvest when husks are dry and kernels hard.
