How to prune amaryllis 'picotee'

Immediately after all flowers have faded. Cut the spent stalk with clean scissors to about 2 inches above the bulb. Never cut healthy green leaves. If resting the bulb for dormancy in autumn, remove yellowed leaves at the base only once fully dead.

Once per flowering cycle. Amaryllis 'Picotee' needs only post-bloom stalk removal. Once its white red-edged flowers fade, cut the hollow flower stalk to about 2 inches above the bulb. Keep all green strap leaves through spring and summer to rebuild the bulb. Remove a leaf only when it turns fully yellow and dies back on its own.
