How to prune pea
Pruning pea — FAQ
When should I prune pea?
Pinch tip when plants reach support height; tidy throughout the season. Cut or pinch the main growing tip just above a leaf node when the plant hits the top of the support. Remove dead or diseased leaves by cutting cleanly. There is no benefit to heavy pruning — peas are short-season crops and regrow slowly.
How often does pea need pruning?
Once (tip pinch); tidy as needed. Peas require very little pruning. Pinch out the growing tip of climbing varieties when they reach the top of their support to encourage lateral shoots and extend the cropping period. Remove yellowed or diseased lower leaves to improve airflow. Bush varieties need no pruning. Regular pod harvesting is more important than any cutting.
