Pruning parsley — FAQ
When should I prune parsley?
Harvest and remove outer stems throughout the growing season. Cut individual stems cleanly at the base, always taking the oldest outer stems first to keep the centre growing strongly. Remove flower stalks as soon as they appear to delay bolting.
How often does parsley need pruning?
As needed / ongoing harvest. Parsley is a biennial that produces leaves in year one and bolts to seed in year two. No structural pruning is needed — simply harvest outer stems at the base regularly. Remove any yellowing or damaged stems promptly. Once it bolts and flowers, leaf quality declines sharply; replace the plant at that point.
