How to prune moonstones

Spring, for cutting back leggy growth; after flowering for deadheading. Use a clean, sharp blade to cut a leggy stem just above a healthy leaf node. Callus the rosette cutting for 3–5 days before potting. Pinch or cut flower stalks at the base once fully spent.

Rarely — only when etiolation occurs or after flowering. Moonstones rarely need pruning. The rosette is naturally compact. If stems become leggy from low light, cut the etiolated stem back to a healthy node with a clean blade, let it callus, and re-root the rosette as a cutting. Remove spent flower stalks after blooming. Avoid touching the farina-coated leaves — fingerprints are permanent.
