Pruning oregano — FAQ
When should I prune oregano?
Late spring before flowering, and again in midsummer after first bloom. Cut stems back by up to half using clean scissors, just above a leaf node. Remove any flowering stems promptly if you want to extend the harvest window for leaves.
How often does oregano need pruning?
2–3 times per growing season. Oregano grows vigorously and benefits from regular cutting to keep it productive and prevent it flopping over. Cut stems back by half before or just after flowering to stimulate fresh leafy growth. Regular harvest throughout summer acts as continuous pruning and improves flavour concentration before the plant sets seed.
