How to prune orange lily

Deadhead as flowers fade (early to midsummer); cut stems to ground after foliage yellows in autumn. Remove spent flower heads at the base of the flower with clean snips, leaving the stem and all leaves intact. Cut the whole stem to ground level only once foliage is fully yellow.

Annually — deadhead through the bloom period, single autumn cut-back. Orange lily requires light pruning only. Deadhead spent blooms promptly to encourage remaining buds to open and prevent seed formation, which drains bulb energy. Leave all foliage standing until it naturally yellows in autumn, then cut stems back to ground level so the bulb can store energy for next season.
