When should I prune optical plant?
N/A — do not prune. Allow the full natural desiccation of the old leaf pair without interference. Only peel away the fully mummified husk once it is bone-dry and parts easily from the plant.
How often does optical plant need pruning?
Rarely — only remove completely desiccated old leaves. The Optical Plant (Lithops optica) needs no pruning. Like all Lithops, it replaces its leaf pair annually through an internal renewal process — old leaves gradually shrivel as new growth emerges from within. The old pair must not be removed early since it feeds the emerging new leaves. Patience and non-interference are the correct approach.
