How to prune nobile dendrobium

After flowering finishes (spring); dead canes any time. Cut dead or fully shrivelled canes flush to the base with sterile scissors. Snip off spent flower clusters at the node. Do not remove green canes even if they look old — they store water and nutrients.

Annually after flowering; dead canes as needed. Nobile dendrobium needs little routine pruning. After canes have finished blooming — usually in spring — remove only entirely dead or shrivelled canes at their base. Green canes, even older ones, can produce keikis (plantlets) or reflower in future years, so leave them. Trim spent flower clusters off with scissors as they fade.
