How to prune micholitz's cycad

Any time of year, once fronds are fully dead. Cut fully dead fronds cleanly at the base with a sharp, sterilised blade. Handle with care — the seeds and sap are toxic. Never remove green fronds or interfere with developing cones.

Rarely — only as individual fronds die naturally. Micholitz's Cycad (Cycas micholitzii) is a rare, endangered cycad with minimal pruning needs. Remove only fully dead fronds by cutting at the petiole base. This species grows very slowly and any removal of live foliage is detrimental. All parts are toxic — gloves are essential. Cones should be left to mature naturally.
