Immediately after flowering, late spring. Using shears, cut the whole clump — leaves and spent flower stems — to within 5 cm (2 in) of the ground after blooms fade. Water well after cutting. Fresh foliage regrows within a few weeks.

Once annually after flowering. Lungwort needs a hard cut after flowering to look its best. Once the pink-and-blue spring flowers fade, shear the entire clump to just above ground level — this triggers a flush of fresh, attractively spotted summer foliage and reduces powdery mildew risk. New leaves fill in quickly.
