How to prune lonicera periclymenum

Immediately after the main flowering flush (typically July–August); a structural tidy in late winter. After flowering, cut flowered shoots back by one-third to a strong lateral or bud. In late winter, remove one or two of the oldest stems entirely at the base to encourage fresh growth from lower down.

Twice yearly — after flowering and a late-winter tidy. Lonicera periclymenum (common woodbine honeysuckle) flowers on side shoots produced from the previous year's growth. Prune immediately after the main summer flush to encourage a second set of flowering laterals. An annual late-winter tidy removes the oldest stems and stops the plant becoming a congested bird's nest.
