How to prune lilium 'regale'

Deadhead immediately after blooms fade in midsummer; cut stems back in autumn. Snap or cut individual spent flowers at the base of each bloom. Once all flowers on the stem are spent, the stem can be cut to soil level in autumn after the foliage has fully yellowed.

Annually — deadhead in summer, cut back once in autumn. Lilium regale (Regal lily) needs only basic maintenance. Deadhead spent blooms to prevent seed set and conserve bulb energy. Leave stems and foliage standing until fully yellow in autumn — early removal weakens the bulb and reduces next year's flowering. Cut to soil level once completely dead.
