When should I prune leek?
Harvest from autumn through winter as needed. Peel away any yellow or slimy outer leaves by hand. Harvest the whole plant by loosening the soil with a fork and pulling. No cutting back of living growth is required during cultivation.
How often does leek need pruning?
Rarely — remove damaged leaves as they appear. Leeks require no pruning. They are grown for their stem and harvested whole when the shank is thick enough, typically 1 inch or more in diameter. Simply remove any yellowing or dead outer leaf sheaths by peeling them back. No tip-pinching or structural pruning is needed or beneficial.
