How to prune iris laevigata

Deadhead after flowering in early to midsummer; cut back in autumn. Cut spent flower stalks to the base immediately after bloom. In autumn, shear all foliage back to low stubs. When dividing, lift the rhizome mat, separate healthy outer sections with a spade or knife, and replant at the correct water depth.
