How to prune intermediate polypody

Any time of year as dead or damaged fronds appear. Cut dead or yellowing fronds cleanly at the base with sterile scissors. Do not cut the rhizome or disturb its surface positioning.

Rarely — only as dead growth appears. Intermediate Polypody rarely needs pruning. Like other polypodies, it grows from a creeping rhizome and will not bush out in response to cutting. Simply remove fronds that have died or gone brown at their base to keep the plant looking clean. No structural or shaping pruning is needed or useful.
