How to prune ice dance sedge

Late winter to early spring, before new growth. Use shears or a lawnmower set high to cut the whole clump back to 2–3 inches above soil level once a year. Remove clippings to prevent thatch build-up. Divide congested mats every 4–5 years.

Annually (or every other year if foliage stays attractive). Ice Dance Sedge (Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance') is an evergreen, shade-tolerant ground-cover sedge. It is low-maintenance: in late winter or early spring, shear or mow the clump back to 2–3 inches above the ground to remove tired foliage and encourage a flush of fresh growth. Skip this if the foliage looks clean coming out of winter.
