How to prune hosta

Deadhead flower scapes after blooming (summer); cut foliage to ground after first frost (autumn). Snap or cut flower scapes at ground level once the flowers have faded. In late autumn, use shears to cut all leaves to within a few centimetres of the ground after frost has killed the foliage, then compost the debris.

Annually (autumn cut-back); deadheading as needed during summer. Hostas need minimal pruning during the growing season.
