How to prune hope philodendron

Spring through summer during active growth; remove dead leaves anytime. Cut individual leaf stems cleanly at the base of the petiole with sharp, sterilised pruning shears. Do not cut the main growing crown — remove individual leaves only.

As needed — a few leaves seasonally as the plant naturally sheds older growth. Hope Philodendron (a large self-heading hybrid) needs only light maintenance pruning. Remove spent, yellowed, or damaged leaves at the base to keep growth vigorous. As it matures it can get large; if space is limited, remove outermost leaves rather than hacking into the crown, which can stress the plant.
