Annually; light deadheading through summer (leave some hips if desired). Hansa is a tough, repeat-flowering Rugosa shrub rose that needs relatively little pruning. It naturalises well and tolerates neglect. An annual tidy in late winter — removing dead wood and a light overall reduction — plus deadheading to encourage repeat bloom is usually sufficient. Avoid heavy cutting; Rugosas resent drastic pruning.
