How to prune fred ives

Spring or early summer for beheading; dead leaf removal any time. Hand-pull dried lower leaves. For etiolated plants, cut cleanly through the stem just below the rosette, callous for 2–3 days, then plant in dry gritty mix. The stump will push new rosette offsets.

Rarely — as needed when leggy. Fred Ives is a vigorous hybrid succulent that needs minimal pruning. Remove dead lower leaves by hand as they shrivel. If the rosette becomes leggy or top-heavy, behead it, allow the cut to callous, and re-root — this also produces offsets on the parent stem. Otherwise, no routine pruning is needed.
