How to prune grape 'frontenac'

Late winter (February–March) once temperatures reliably remain above -15 °C; fully dormant stage. Frontenac suits bilateral cordon with spur pruning. Cut each spur back to 2–3 buds. Annually. Grape 'Frontenac' is a very vigorous cold-climate hybrid. Its vigour means pruning must be thorough — leave too many buds and you get excessive vegetative growth with poor fruit quality. Annual dormant pruning retains only 30–60 buds per vine depending on vine age and system, removing the vast majority of one-year wood.
