As needed, typically a few times per year. Golden Polypody (Phlebodium aureum) needs very little pruning. It is a vigorous rhizomatous fern, but it does not branch in response to cutting. Remove old, yellowing, or dead fronds at the base as they naturally die back. The distinctive blue-green waxy rhizome must never be cut — it drives all new growth.
