How to prune fothergilla 'mount airy'

Late winter to early spring before bud break. Cut any dead or crossing stems back to the base. Every few years, remove one or two of the oldest stems at ground level to encourage strong new basal growth and maintain vigour.

As needed — thinning every 3–5 years. Fothergilla 'Mount Airy' has a naturally rounded, well-branched habit and rarely needs pruning. Remove dead or damaged stems in late winter.
